Ciguapa soy del Cibao
Esta tierra de nosotros
Si con cuidado la amamos
Será esmeralda pa’ todos
Hija soy del huracán
Son mis venas los arroyos
Mis brazos son alas blancas
De las garzas cada otoño
Los españoles vinieron
A matar nuestros retoños
Pocos indios que quedaron
Vivieron sólo para el foso,
Pero mis taínos viven:
Sus almas son capas de oro
Adornan mi corazón
Es Quisqueya su tesoro.

The Song of the Ciguapa
I’m Ciguapa from the Cibao
This land of ours
If we love it with care
It’ll be an emerald for everyone
Daughter I’m of the hurricane
The creeks are my veins
My arms are the white wings
Of the egrets every fall
The Spaniards came
To kills my buds
The few Indians left
Only lived for the grave,
But my Taínos live:
Their souls have layers of gold
They adorn my heart
It’s Quisqueya their treasure
